1st NRN-LCEE Summer Conference held in Aberystwyth
Between the 25th and 27th August the 1st NRN-LCEE Summer Confernce was held at Aberystwyth University. For the first time, delegates from all 8 NRN-LCEE Research Clusters came together to present their work and progress to members of the NRN-LCEE Strategic Advisory Group (SAG).
Over the 3 days, 55 delegates from all 8 Clusters met with the NRN-LCEE Strategic Advisory Group and the other Cluster members. For many of the newly appointed Sêr Cymru Fellows and PhD students, this was the first time they met with their partners at the other Universities, and it was an excellent opportunity for project meetings and discussions.
The conference also included two keynotes on the topic of 'Research with Impact'. Zamila Bunglawala, Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Manchester and former Government Policy Advisor, gave the attendees a real insight into how research gets used in policy. Dr. Kathryn Monk, Principal Advisor for Science at Natural Resources Wales and member of the NRN-LCEE SAG, then provided an excellent overview of research impact in a REF context, and what associated cultural changes are taking place at the science-policy interface.
